Well what a weekend. OVERTIME! Us prison guards love to put in the extra work. The pay structure for a CA prison guard is somewhat salaried. We receive a monthly check based on 22 days of work, and that is broken down into an hourly rate. Due to the very liberal leave structure, we always make the numbers, so you are generally guaranteed to make your actual salary. It is pretty simple, but on those occasions, and there are plenty, when overtime is available, that salary converts to an hourly wage and at time and one-half. So for me, that is a number just north of $70.00 per hour. Well I was able to muster up the strength to make a weekend of 24 hours of regular shift and 20.5 hours of overtime.

So it looks like this, Friday, 5 hours sleep and 12.5 hours of work, Saturday, 4 hours of sleep 16 hours work, Sunday 4 hours of sleep 16 hours of work. Grand Total: 13 hours of sleep and 48.5 hours of work. This kind of activity is good for the bankroll.

I did get a little ass chewing on Friday. You see, prisons are a secret place. Not a lot of information creeps into the public, nor to the people who are tasked with oversight responsibilities. We keep our business in house. Well, like a dummy, I went and made a telephone call to HQ. The call was regarding a memorandum that was sent from HQ. There was a difference of opinion in regards to the intent of the memorandum, and since it did say, “ If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Ms. ***** ******* at (916) XXX-XXXX. Well, how dare I! It was not 20 minutes after I hung up the telephone that I was approached by my superior (Captain), and given the warden’s expectations about calling outside the prison. So after I was threatened with death and told, “I ought to F&*%&^* kill you”, I was then told (in a calm voice) I had a right to call, “But what the F%$#@ are you doing…” I was laughing so hard, however the boss wasn’t. Let me see now. If I have any questions or concerns, feel free to call, but you had better not ever call. You see, the call to the warden came from HQ! What a joke! Only true crime to report” Alleged Sexual Battery (Rape) between cellmates. PRISON!

I finally purchased Doyle Brunson’s Book, Super/System 1. I have enjoyed my study time with it. I see what all the hoopla is about. I bet when this book first came out it was golden to many players. I see how his aggression works, and works well. The trouble is, I play at much lower stakes. These moves would be crazy to use. Every shove would get called. I can’t see how this would work at my levels; however there is enough information in the book to be helpful.

I see Doyle’s Room is shutting down. What a shame. It may be that I connected with the online poker scene a little late. The US government might succeed in pushing a lot of players out of the online scene as funding is going to be tough. Stars has the right idea, they accept Money Orders. That is a funding source that will work 100% of the time, no matter what. The only problem is, only true players will use MO’s, and the fish would have swum away. I see tough games ahead at all levels. I also see a whole community of very good poker payers emerging from this, however if poker is allowed, then BOOM!!!

POKER!
